Born in Singapore, Sarah came from a small Chinese family, she was looked after by her grandmother while her parents worked. She took to drawing at a very young age, her grandmother said she could draw before she could write. Drawing and painting were her favourite past time in her early childhood as there were no other children to play with nor were there TV or iphones. She was influenced by her artistic mother who worked long hours in the bank, but gave her encouragement and support in her artistic pursuits.
She won a national drawing competition at the age of nine, and started learning water colour and oil pastels from a local artist. Having attaining straight ‘As’ for art exams from primary to college, Sarah chose to studied art and design at Temasek Polytechnic and started her career as an art director in advertising.
Sarah later moved to London to study her BA (Hons) at Central Saint Martins, and then continued her career as an art director for the past 17 years. In between, she studied a MA in Arts Management at City University and started a Hip Hop dance company. She is currently closing the loop, exploring her earliest passion, painting and drawing.
